Healing After Loss

A book written by Martha Whitmore Hickman for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, here is strength and thoughtful words to inspire and comfort.

Published in 1994 by Avon Books.

@susangrady this is another Resource which has been prioritized as being valuable by local care partners, community stakeholders and clinicians and staff at DH. Please see comments on book from members above. @jaytref says he reads it nightly. Glad you are here. Keep coming back when able and welcome again to the ConnectShareCare fellowship. We will walk alongside you.

@susangrady sharing here as well in case it might help others on a similar journey. Original message

It states "Hidden Brain explores the unconscious patterns that drive human behavior and questions that lie at the heart of our complex and changing world."

I am also going to add to ConnectShareCare Resources Under "Planning Ahead" --> "Emotional Resources" with the Book "Healing After Loss" so to make sure this information is stored in more than one place.

I do see an episode called "Healing Your Heart" which speaks to loss and grief.

@gata I wanted to highlight this book as something that might be of interest to you and offer comfort after the loss of your husband. Please see the comments above from the ConnectShareCommunity on their experience in reading. I am very glad you are here with us.

@mjh1966 I believe I have the right member? If correct, this is the book I had mentioned. A number of other members have found comfort in the daily readings such as @jaytref @mgd not sure if @kathyandcarl has read or @merryk or @susangrady - I welcome anyone who has found this book helpful to share and thank you. @gdot forgot if I also highlighted this too you? I might finally get to ordering myself a copy.

I find the book to be very helpful. Some passages resonate more than others. Some bring me to tears, and others I just say, “okay…” But it is part of my bedtime ritual and that in itself is a comfort.

@sarahjane I am sorry to hear about the loss of your husband this past February. I wanted to highlight this book as a possible resource when you continue- as you stated- to "go through" the grieving process. You might have found other resources which have brought you comfort?

@bratruworldpath I know you mentioned losing your spouse possibly a year and a half ago if I read this right. She was a teacher and you too? I would love to continue to learn more as I am enjoying hearing from you.

I wanted to highlight this book as it was highlighly recommended by our clinical partners in Palliative Care and many members have enjoyed the daily reading. Have you heard of this book? Maybe there is another book you have read which has brought you comfort....we would love to learn. Feel free to connect with other members here as well, several have commented above.

@mschaefer another Resource highlight based on you sharing that your husband passed away last week. When/if ready this might be a good read in the coming months- year.
