Trustees of Dartmouth College (“Dartmouth,” also referred to herein as “we,” “us,” or “our”) respect the privacy of the users of this website and are committed to protecting it through compliance with this website privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”).  This Privacy Policy describes what information is collected about you when you visit the ConnectShareCare website (www.connectsharecare.org) (the “Site”) or otherwise use the Site and its services and how that information is used and protected, and explains the choices you have about how your personal information is used.  Please read this Privacy Policy carefully.

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected:

  • On the Site; and
  • In email, text, and other electronic messages between you and the Site or other users of the Site.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to information collected by Dartmouth offline or through any other means, including on any other website operated by Dartmouth or any third party, or in connection with any research study relating to the use of the Site in which you may participate, including without limitation any research that you are invited to participate in as a result of information about that is collected on the Site (see Section II.C below for more information on this). A.  Definitions and General Method of Data Collection

If you choose to register or update an existing member profile, or access certain functionality on the Site, you may be required to submit certain personal data to us. Such personal data would include information that we can use to identify or contact you, such as your name, phone number, email address or any other information this website collects that is defined as personal or personally identifiable information under applicable law.

You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the information that you submit to us. Inaccurate information will affect your experience when using this Site and related tools and our ability to contact you as described in this Privacy Policy.

  1. Information that We Collect through Automatic Data Collection Technologies

Even if you do not register with or provide any personally identifiable information to us, we collect automatically-generated information about your use of this Site. Information that is collected automatically consists of data that will not be used to identify or contact you but that is about you and/or about your internet connection, the equipment you use to access this Site and its operating system, information collected through various automatic tracking technologies, and usage details of your visits to the Site, such as the content that you view, resources that you access and use, and the websites that you visit immediately before and after this website. Access to some of the tools and services available on the Site may be limited to users who have registered.  We will not make any use of your personal data in addition to the uses described in this Privacy Policy unless you consent thereto.

  1.  Web Beacons are graphic image files imbedded in a web page typically used to monitor activity on a web page and send back to its home server (which can belong to the host site, a network advertiser or some other third party) information from your browser, such as the IP address, the URL of the page on which the beacon is located, the type of browser that is accessing the site and the identification number of any Cookies on your computer previously placed by that server.

F.Obtaining Your Consent to Cookies and other Device Identifying Technologies

Most computer browsers are initially set to accept Cookies. Most browser software can be set to reject Cookies. Most browsers offer instructions on how to reset the browser to reject Cookies in the "Help" section of the toolbar. If you reject our Cookies, certain of the functions and conveniences of this website may not work properly.

G. Our Response to Do-Not-Track Signals

We do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals as there is no common set of standards for responding to them.

A. We do not release, trade, or sell any individually identifiable information gathered from users of this website to third parties. We may disclose, without restriction, aggregated information about our users.

B. We, or our contractors, may use information that we collect or that you provide as described in this Privacy Policy:

C. Research and Measurement Activities

Information collected about you may be used to extend personal invitations to you to participate in research studies or projects related to this website or its broader, related goals.  You are always free to decline to participate in any research study or project when contacted. Such research may be published by us without any personal identifiers such as names and email addresses. User information may also be used by us and our contractors as critical feedback for improving website content and accessibility.

We may report aggregate information, which cannot be identified back to an individual user of this website, to our current or prospective advertisers and other business partners. We do not sell or share any personally identifiable information with any third parties except as described in Sections D and E below.

D. Disclosure of Your Information to Third Parties

Except as described in this Privacy Policy or as specifically consented to by you, we will not sell, trade, rent, or disclose personally identifiable information that we gather from you through this website to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.  Third parties may collect personally identifiable information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use our website and related services.

We may release personally identifiable information to third parties only as follows:

  1. To comply with legal requirements such as a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena or court order;
  2. In special cases, such as in response to a physical threat to you or others, to protect property, or to defend or assert legal rights;
  3. For any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information; and
  4. In the event of a transfer of ownership or control of this website, we reserve the right to transfer the information that you disclose to us as well as usage information that is automatically collected about you to the new party in control or the party acquiring ownership. In the event of such a change, the information that you disclose to us will continue to be treated in accordance with this Privacy Policy unless any changes to the Privacy Policy are made in accordance with Section V below that discusses “Changes to This Privacy Policy.”

E. Disclosures to Our Contractors

Our contractors sometimes have limited access to the information you provide to us and automatically collected data about your usage of this website in the course of providing products or services to us. Certain content and services offered to you through this website are served on, or contain links to, websites hosted and operated by an entity other than us ("Third Party Websites"). We do not disclose your personal data to these Third Party Websites without your consent, but you should be aware that any information you disclose to the other websites once you access them is not subject to this Privacy Policy.  We do not endorse and are not responsible for the privacy practices of these Third Party Websites. We urge you to review the privacy policy posted on these other websites to understand how Third Party Websites collect and use your personally identifiable information.

III. Data Security and Storage

A. Data Security

The security of your information is important to us and we strive to prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information.  When you enter personal data, we will use technology for encryption of that information that may include Secure Sockets Layers (SSL) connections technology, which is the current industry standard.

B. Data Storage

We will retain your information as long as your account is active or needed to provide you services. At any time, you can remove your personal data or instruct us to remove it, but you should be aware that it is not technologically possible to remove each and every record of the information you have provided to us from our servers. We will also retain your information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

We take reasonable security measures to protect the security of your personal data. Despite our efforts to protect your privacy, there is always some risk that an unauthorized third party may find a way around our security systems or that transmissions of your information over the Internet may be intercepted.

We reserve the right to change or modify this Privacy Policy or any of our tools or services at any time and any changes will be effective upon being posted unless we advise otherwise. If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by email (sent to the email address specified when you register) and/or by means of a notice on this website prior to the change becoming effective. We encourage you to periodically review this website for the latest information on our privacy practices. If you do not accept the terms of this Privacy Policy, we ask that you do not register with us and that you do not use this website.
